Second Annual Catonsville Fine Arts Exhibition Expands to More Artists, Bigger Venue

Event is Sunday at the Bloomsbury Community Center.

If last year's fine arts exhibition in Catonsville was an indication of the number of talented local artists, this year's event will be an even bigger display.

, which is sponsored by the Catonsville Arts Council, will feature 24 Catonsville artists as well as student art from Hillcrest and Westowne elementary schools, and Catonsville and Arbutus middle schools. It will be from 12-5 p.m. at the Bloomsbury Community Center and is co-sponsored by the Catonsville Rotary Club-Sunrise.

Edward Williams, one of the council's founding members, has been organizing the event with artist Jane Byers and other guild members.

Last year's event was held over several weeks at the and had 20 artists. This year's event will be held on one day, but it will include more artists and more space for the artists' work.

Catonsville artist Nina Lagervall was one of last year's exhibitors and is excited to show this year. Lagervall said since last year's show, she has enjoyed a more cohesive arts community.

"We see each other on a regular basis and it's been really great to meet other artists and do things together," Lagervall said.

Since last year, membership to the guild has grown from seven to 14 members, Williams said.

"The word is getting out that artists are being recognized in Catonsville," he said.

Members of the guild can show their art at upcoming events sponsored by the council, which has included art in businesses as part of . They can also have a page of their artwork on display on the council's website.

Lagervall said she is looking forward to Sunday to see even more of what her fellow local artists are doing.

"It's always great to see other people's work," she said.

The following artists will be there: Kathryn Brave, Jane Byers, Josephine Collins, Emily Cayford, Angela Delverson, Debbie Ford, Irene Hebert, Ian Herrick, Niki Hord,  Mary Jo Kehne, Frank Kirby, Adam LaFon, Doug LaFon, Rhea Montgomery, Ken Pittman, Nina Lagervall, Roberta Lavin, Andy Richardson, Peter Spencer, Melissa Spencer, Edward Williams and Frank Walsh.
