Michelle Burkholder of Catonsville has achieved a first in the Mennonite Church.
She's been approved by church council as the associate pastor of the Hyattsville Mennonite Church. And, with the role comes the honor of being the first openly lesbian woman to be named to that post within the entire Mennonite Church, according to an article in Hyattsville Patch.
Burkholder is married and is a member of the Hyattsville church.
She earned her masters in theology and arts from the United Theological Seminary in St. Paul, Minn., and is a graduate of Eastern Mennonite High School and Eastern Mennonite University.
