Catonsville, Arbutus Storm Updates

Arbutus area has not been hit hard, thousands without power, several major intersections affected in Catonsville.

(UPDATED 6:30 p.m.) Governor Martin O'Malley has declared a as more than 100,000 customers are without power in Baltimore County.

In Catonsville, Frederick Road businesses are open, but many businesses along Baltimore National Pike were closed without power. A large tree on Rolling Road just north of Edmondson has shut down the road. There are also downed lines at Edmondson Avenue and Rolling Road.

Police were directing traffic all day at several intersections along Baltimore National Pike that did not have power, including North Rolling Road, Winters Lane and Academy Road. There were no power outages at Baltimore National Pike and Ingleside Avenue, however.

Also early Saturday morning, a power outage at the Frederick Road pumping station caused 75,000 gallons of sewer overflow that occurred, which was stopped when crews restored power using the station’s on-site, emergency generator.

The alarm sounded at midnight; the overflow began at 1 a.m. and power was restored by 4 a.m. The overflow ceased at 7:20 a.m., according to a press release from the Baltimore County Public Works Department.

Overflow discharge from the Frederick Road station flows to the Patapsco River and Baltimore County Department of Health will monitor water quality in the Patapsco area affected by the overflow. Any water contact advisories will be posted online.

Damage from the storm in Patapsco State Park was modest, according to park officials. The Grist Mill trail is closed, and the bathrooms at the Orange Grove area don't have power, a park ranger said.

(UPDATED 2:50 p.m.) Baltimore National Pike and Rolling Road north of Edmondson continue to be without power, according to eyewitness reports.

BGE crews are strationed at Rolling Road and Edmondson Avenue due to downer power lines. Drivers are able to proceed east and west, but cannot head north on Rolling Road. Drivers headed south on Rolling Road from Baltimote National Pike are being re-routed through the neighbhoods to the west.

Baltimore National Pike continues to be difficult to navigate, as traffic lights at Rolling Road, Winters Lane, Academy Road and Saint Agnes Lane are out. The traffic lights at Baltimore National Pike and Ingleside Avenue are working.

Edmondson Avenue heading west into Baltimore city is also partially blocked with downed tree limbs.

Baltimore County Government reports that the is open until 5:30 p.m. However, the Arbutus Library and the Arbutus Senior Center are closed.

(11:45 a.m.) Many trees are down and several major intersections are affected in the Catonsville area after Friday night's storm.

Businesses and residences along Frederick Road are with power, but the western side of Catonsville including Oella and Westchester are without power.

The traffic lights are out along Rolling Road at both Edmondson Avenue and Baltimore National Pike.

Officers with Precinct One/Wilkens of the Baltimore County Police Department told Patch that no major injuries as a result of the storm.

Businesses along Edmondson Avenue are also without power.

In Arbutus, all major intersections are clear and open.
