The UMBC Camerata with the Handel Choir of Baltimore

Tickets for general admission and preferred seating still available.

It's not too late! Tickets for general admission and preferred seating still available.

The UMBC Camerata performs Johannes Brahms’ Choral masterwork, Ein Deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem) in collaboration with the Handel Choir of Baltimore and the Orchestra of St. Johns Sunday, April 14 at 4 pm. This performance, under the direction of Melinda O'Neal, Artistic Director and Conductor of the Handel Choir of Baltimore, will take place at the Church of Saint Michaels and All Angels in Baltimore.

A select choir of 40-50 auditioned singers drawn from all majors, the UMBC Camerata performs a wide variety of works from an expansive choral repertoire, including Renaissance motets, folksongs, choral-orchestral works, German part songs, Russian sacred liturgies, American spirituals and new works. In previous seasons Camerata has accepted invitations to perform with conductor-composer John Rutter at Carnegie Hall, and to provide entertainment for guests touring the White House during the holiday season.

About A German Requiem:

Rather than writing music for the Latin requiem mass, Brahms selected an entirely different set of Biblical texts in German and with no liturgical purpose. Composed for the living rather than the departed, his monumental, transformative Ein deutsches Requiem is woven throughout with a clear awareness of life’s transience, and our need to be comforted.  --HandelChoir.org

This concert will be preceded by a discussion about the Requiem with Carl B. Schmidt of Towson University's Department of Music at 3 pm.
