101 Things to Enjoy

We spend a lot of time talking about health and fitness around here – which makes sense, all things considered – covering different exercises, the metabolic pathways, improving your health, etc. This week, lets take a break! This week we’re going to list 101 things you can do to make your life happier and more fulfilled. Sure, some will be tangentially fitness related, but plenty of them won’t be. Some may not be for you, but plenty will be. Making health and fitness a priority in your life is only truly useful if you then take that life and live it in a fulfilling and meaningful way. Be healthy to live longer, but remember to actually Live! Anyway, without further ado…

101 Things to Enjoy

(In no particular order)

  1. Read a book every month in a genre you enjoy
  2. Take archery lessons
  3. Go to the zoo
  4. Lay out under the stars on a cloudless night
  5. Ride in a hot air balloon
  6. Spend 4 hours in a quiet cemetery during the day
  7. Swim in the Dead Sea
  8. Learn to play one song on an instrument of your choice
  9. Drive a race car
  10. If you’re not doing what you love for your career, take one step every week that gets you closer to doing so
  11. Visit every continent
  12. Learn a martial art
  13. Get SCUBA certified
  14. Go to the Burning Man festival
  15. See a play
  16. Ask to shadow a physician for a day at the hospital
  17. Go diving with sharks (in a cage)
  18. Read five good books on philosophy, from different authors, faiths, and schools of thought
  19. Go to Mardi Gras in New Orleans
  20. For one day, tell everyone you meet something kind and pleasant
  21. Spend Christmas at the beach
  22. Go skeet shooting
  23. Organize a 10 person Halloween costume
  24. Learn to cook
  25. Patiently answer every question asked by a four-year-old child
  26. Host an Oktoberfest party
  27. Volunteer for one month at a homeless shelter
  28. Go snorkeling
  29. Every week for a year, try one new food
  30. Create your own iPhone app
  31. Drive a jet ski
  32. Lay out under the sun on a cloudless day
  33. For one month, write a short poem every day (it doesn’t matter how good it is!)
  34. St. Patrick’ Day in Ireland
  35. Watch a highly rated movie in a genre you would normally avoid
  36. Spend one season living on the beach
  37. Do a ride along with local police
  38. Start a blog about something you love. Write at least 3000 words every week.
  39. Give a speech in public
  40. Go skydiving
  41. Start your own political party
  42. Read a book in a genre you’ve never read before
  43. Spend 4 hours in a quiet cemetery at night!
  44. Go ocean kayaking
  45. Volunteer for one month at a local animal shelter
  46. Live in a foreign country
  47. Spend one week walking instead of driving whenever possible (yes, you might have to walk a mile or more, you’ll live!)
  48. Dye your hair a new color every month for a year
  49. Write one short story every week (3-5 pages) for three months
  50. Learn to yodel
  51. Go snowboarding
  52. Get away from everything for a weekend. No phone, no computer, no internet. Just you and the Universe.
  53. Learn to draw
  54. Live for one month as a Buddhist monk
  55. Attend the Summer Olympics
  56. Learn at least one style of dance (Salsa, Tango, Ball Room, Break, etc.)
  57. Go to a science museum
  58. Learn to change your own car oil
  59. Start a home business doing something you love
  60. Over the next 12 months, write a novel (even if you’re the only one who ever reads it)
  61. Go white water rafting
  62. Try to break a Guinness World Record
  63. Take an improv acting course
  64. Go para-sailing
  65. Drink a $1,000 bottle of champagne
  66. Lay out and watch the clouds go by, and see what you can see
  67. Own at least one tailored suit or dress, and wear it once a month
  68. Learn to identify five star constellations in your home night sky
  69. Learn to ski
  70. Enjoy one week on the beach
  71. Stay for a week in a castle
  72. Become Vegan for one month
  73. For one month, make all food from scratch
  74. Go to the aquarium
  75. Attend the Winter Olympics
  76. Forgive one person who wronged you
  77. Go zorbing (those giant hamster ball things)
  78. Build something small (coffee table, chair, etc)
  79. Learn a language similar to yours (e.g. if you speak Spanish, learn French)
  80. Go water skiing
  81. Try a new clothing style
  82. Go to an outdoor movie
  83. Just once, let them tell you about their faith when they come to your door
  84. Road trip to all 50 United States
  85. Learn falconry
  86. Bungee jumping!
  87. Go zip-lining
  88. Get a pen pal from another country
  89. Take a pottery class
  90. Take something complicated apart and try to put it back together again
  91. Visit a Native American reservation
  92. Have someone read your Tarot cards, just for fun
  93. See a fireworks show
  94. Every day for one month, wake up and immediately say, with enthusiasm: ”it’s good to be alive today”
  95. Hug your friends and family
  96. Learn a language completely different than yours (e.g. if you speak English, learn Japanese)
  97. Go to a dance club
  98. Build something large (shed, house, deck, etc.)
  99. Go on a game show
  100. Go snow tubing
  101. Visit a Children’s hospital and read to the kids
