MARYLAND BUSINESS ROUNDTABLE FOR EDUCATION WELCOMES BGE EXECUTIVE MICHAEL DAVENPORT TO THE STRATEGIC STEERING COMMITTEE

New Committee Member Brings Exceptional Strategic Planning and Leadership Skills to Nationally Recognized Education Nonprofit

Baltimore, MD – The Maryland Business Roundtable for Education (MBRT), a nonprofit coalition of leading employers that have made a long-term commitment to support education reform and improve student achievement in Maryland, today announced that Michael O. Davenport, Manager of Community Affairs at Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE), has joined the organization as the newest member of the Strategic Steering Committee.

As a member of the Strategic Steering Committee, Davenport will help MBRT provide the overall strategic direction of the organization and the coordination of MBRT committees.

“I look forward to joining MBRT’s Strategic Steering Committee and contributing to their successful track record of producing results and positively impacting the lives of our children,” said Davenport. “I am excited to be a part of MBRT’s work to ensure our youth are prepared for tomorrow’s challenges, something that is extremely important to me and critical to improving the quality of life for our youth and future workforce.”

Davenport joined BGE in 2011 as Director of Customer Outreach and Community Engagement. Since BGE’s merger with Exelon Corporation, Davenport has assumed the role of Manager of Community Affairs and is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to develop relationships with community, civic and business leaders and to help enhance the company’s image and relationships throughout its service territory.

“It is a privilege to welcome Michael Davenport to MBRT’s Strategic Steering Committee,” said June Streckfus, Executive Director of MBRT. “Davenport’s experience in the human resources industry and employment sectors and his obvious passion for education will prove beneficial for MBRT as it works to grow and develop the organization to best serve the needs of Maryland students and develop a highly educated and well-prepared workforce of tomorrow.”

Davenport first became involved with MBRT in 2012 as a volunteer for the Maryland Scholars Speakers Bureau. During his time with the organization, Davenport has spoken with over 200 8th and 9th grade students in Baltimore City and Prince George’s County.

Davenport has more than 20 years of experience working with major Maryland companies to implement human resources and talent management programs. His experience includes work in the areas of employee relations, organization development, training and employment.
