Hubbard Funeral Home Honored by The Arc Baltimore

The Hubbard Funeral Home in Catonsville was recently honored with a Special Appreciation Award during The Arc Baltimore’s 2014 Annual Meeting.

Heather Brown-Simons, a mortician at the Hubbard Funeral Home, received a phone call several months ago from Nancy Brown, a staff person at The Arc, who was attempting to honor an individual’s desire to be cremated. Tragically, this woman was hit by a car and had very limited resources at the time of her death. Heather listened with compassion and offered to arrange for the Hubbard Funeral Home to take care of the woman’s cremation for a fraction of the cost. Heather and the Hubbard staff were professional and respectful, and provided great comfort as arrangements were made and a service was held.

At about the same time, another woman supported at one of The Arc’s day programs passed away and again there was no family or provision for burial services. When asked, Heather arranged for the funeral home to extend the same generosity. The Hubbard Funeral Home saved The Arc thousands of dollars and ensured that both women were honored with dignity and respect.
