BGE Professional Alexander Nunez to Join Maryland Business Roundtable for Education Board of Directors

BGE PROFESSIONAL ALEXANDER NÚÑEZ TO JOIN MARYLAND BUSINESS ROUNDTABLE FOR EDUCATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS

New Board Member Brings Professional Experience and Personal Commitment to Nationally Recognized Nonprofit that Works to Strengthen K12 Education and Workforce Quality

Baltimore, MD – The Maryland Business Roundtable for Education (MBRT), a nonprofit coalition of leading employers that have made a long-term commitment to support education reform and improve student achievement in Maryland, today announced that Alexander G. Núñez, Vice President of Governmental and External Affairs at Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), will be joining its Board of Directors, effective immediately. In his role, Núñez will play an integral part for MBRT’s mission of bringing the voice of business to support high standards, rigorous assessments, and strong accountability in K-12 education, and to demonstrate the connection between achievement in school and success in the workplace, in college and in life.

As Vice President of Governmental and External Affairs for BGE, Núñez is responsible for managing the company’s relationships with Maryland’s state and local elected and appointed officials, as well as with the various state and local government agencies. Núñez currently leads the company’s advocacy efforts before the Executive and Legislative branches of Maryland’s state and local governments. Núñez previously served as the company’s Director of State Affairs and as Senior Public Affairs Representative and Annapolis counsel.  Before joining the company in 2001, Núñez worked for the Maryland General Assembly, where he served as Committee Counsel to the Senate Finance Committee of Maryland.

Núñez contributes actively to several industry and community organizations.  He has long represented BGE in the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, including serving on its Legislative Committee, Environment Committee and Civil Liability Committee. Núñez currently serves as a founding member of the Greater Baltimore Committee’s Energy and Natural Resources Committee. Núñez is also past-President and remains a member of the Legislative Committee of the Maryland-D.C. Utilities Association.

“I am honored to be asked to serve on the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education Board of Directors,” said Núñez. “I am excited to be given the opportunity to work beside the MBRT staff and its Board of Directors to improve student achievement and workforce preparedness, grow their STEM programs, and raise awareness about the important work they do.”

Núñez is a graduate of the Leadership Maryland Class of 2005 and has served as a member of its Board of Directors. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Maryland Government Relations Association and the Utilities State Government Organization. Núñez received a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from the University of Notre Dame and a Juris Doctorate with honors from Valparaiso University School of Law.  Núñez is also admitted to practice law in the state and federal courts of Maryland and in the United States Supreme Court, and currently resides in Annapolis, Maryland.
