Testing Company Opening $12M White Marsh Global Hub

Prometric is expected to bring 250 jobs to Baltimore County.

A testing company's global hub is expected to open in White Marsh by early June 2013, Baltimore County government announced Wednesday.

Prometric is slated to construct its new 60,000-square-foot Global Operations Center of Excellence at 7941 Corporate Dr. The facility comes at a $12 million investment cost and is expected to bring 250 jobs to Baltimore County, with workers flocking in from Minnesota and other parts of Maryland. The company currently employs about 450 workers across the state, according to a news release.

Prometric is a worldwide source for technology-driven assessments, offering more than 10 million tests annually in more than 160 countries. Services range from health care certification exams to competency assessments in information technology. The company currently has offices in 11 countries with its corporate headquarters located in Baltimore City, according to the company website

The company's White Marsh facility will include a global help desk, contact centers, on-demand testing and candidate support, the news release stated. 

"We are pleased to place such an integral piece of our company in Baltimore County, near a pool of talented professionals who support our global test network, and convenient to our corporate headquarters in Baltimore City," Prometric CEO Michael Brannick stated in the release.  

Lynn Richardson, president of the Perry Hall/White Marsh Business Association, said the new facility was welcome news. 

"We are always pleased that a major business chooses our community as its home base, especially since White Marsh is very accessible and convenient. It is good to see excellent growth and commitment to keeping this business community healthy," Richardson said. 

County and state officials also lauded the new facility. 

"Prometric is a global, technology-driven company that works with some of the best-known names in the corporate world. We are pleased Prometric chose Baltimore County for their Global Operations Center, and welcome the hundreds of jobs and new investment coming to White Marsh," Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz stated in a release.

"Baltimore County's exceptional cyber security, IT, and customer service workforce will help Prometric build on their successful platforms," Kamenetz added. 

"We're pleased that Prometric recognizes the benefits of doing business in Maryland—including our workforce, ranked among the nation's best and one of our state's greatest competitive assets. We look forward to helping Prometric continue to grow and thrive here in Maryland," Secretary Dominick Murray of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development stated in the release.
