Study: See How Maryland's Tax Rates Compare to Other States
An annual study allows business leaders, government policymakers and taxpayers to compare state tax systems.
How do you think the tax climate for businesses in Maryland compares to other states?
An annual survey by the Tax Foundation ranks Maryland among the 10 worst states for businesses to operate because of "complex, non-neutral taxes with comparatively high rates."
Maryland ranked No. 41 in the Tax Foundation’s 2014 edition of the State Business Tax Climate Index, a study that allows business leaders, government policymakers and taxpayers to compare state tax systems.
Factors that influenced Maryland's poor ranking include the personal income tax structure, unemployment insurance tax and property tax, according to the Washington Business Journal.
Note that the study represents the tax climate of each state as of July 1, which is the first day of the 2014 fiscal year.
