New Owners to Open Artist Café in Old Six Mile Coffee Space

Business partners hope to be open in the Frederick Road space in late September or early October.

Two new business partners hope an emphasis on art and good food will make Artist Café successful in the location Six Mile Coffee formerly occupied.

The coffee shop at 609 Frederick Road earlier this summer after owner Chris Sikora said the store didn't have enough foot traffic to keep the business afloat.

Now, Debbie Ford, a Catonsville resident for 26 years, and her business partner, Andy Richardson, will open a coffee shop called Artist Café.

Ford, who used to frequent Six Mile Coffee, said she thinks people miss having the coffee spot.

"We already have people beating down the door," she said.

Ford and her partner have been artists for several decades and hope to keep the art that was on the walls, but would also like to have art classes and workshops at the space.

recently renovated the downstairs area, and Ford said the space will be perfect for classes.

She also hopes to keep many of the same items on the menu, including soups, sandwiches and pastries. The shop's drive-through will also stay open.

Ford has hired all of her staff, including one person who used to work at Six Mile Coffee.

Right now the team is finalizing the menu and working on getting a logo and a new sign. Ford and Richardson hope to be open on Frederick Road in late September or early October.
