Patch Picks: Five Great Children's Books

Celebrate Read Across America week.

To celebrate Read Across America, Patch is celebrating reading, and five great books for children.

The following is compiled from the Baltimore County Public Library's list for children's books for March.

1. Testing the ice: a true story about Jackie Robinson. With Opening Day next month and Black History Month just finishing, here's a book by Sharon Robinson about her father Jackie Robinson. The book is in the juvenile fiction section.

2. Rosa. This picture book is written by poet Nikki Giovannia and illustator Bryan Collier tells the story of Rosa Parks beautifully.

3. Fly Away Home. Eve Bunting tells the story of a homeless boy who lives in an airport finds hope in a trapped bird that gets out. This is a picture book.

4. Birds. Kevin Henkes tells the story of a little girl and the birds she sees outside her window. This is a picture book.

5. Spongebob Goes Green!: an earth-friendly adventure. Get ready for Earth Day with this picture book that is printed on recycled paper with soy ink. Molly Reisner is the author.
