Meet Journalist, Author, Producer and Writer Rafael Alvarez

Rafael Alvarez, born and bred in Baltimore, is a true renaissance man who fully appreciates his city. Meet the Highlandtown author, TV producer, former Baltimore Sun reporter and president of the Poe Society of Baltimore at the Friends of the Catonsville Library Annual Meeting on Saturday, May 21 at 2:00 pm.

Follow his fascinating career and learn about his latest project,  the “Pennies for Poe” campaign.  In 1875, a local school teacher started “Pennies for Poe” to raise money for a respectable tombstone for the famous author. Nearly 150 years later, another “Pennies for Poe” campaign is under way, this time to save Poe’s North Amity Street house from closure.

Rafael Alvarez has written several books including A Guide to The Wire, a non-fiction guide to the Archdiocese in Baltimore, a short-fiction anthology and two collections of his journalism. Alvarez contributes to Maryland Life regularly with his “The Art & the Dove” column. He is also a writer for www.welcometobaltimorehon.com.

Join Alvarez and the Friends in the lower level meeting room of the library. Refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public and book signing and sales will be available. For more information about Alvarez, go to www.alvarezfiction.com.
