Author To Visit Catonsville High Book Group

Michelle Ray's "Falling for Hamlet," based on William Shakespeare's "Hamlet," will be the focus of the event for club members and CHS students interested in literature, writing or Shakespeare.

Members of a high school book group will get the chance to dish on author Michelle Ray's first novel Falling for Hamlet, with the author herself.

Catonsville High School Inklings Book Group will host Ray, a Montgomery County educator, at the school next week, according to a news release from the school.

The Inklings is a newly formed book group at the school. And the group hopes more students will attend the May 21 event.

"I've been trying to tell people about the event, but help would be great, too," a post on The Inklings Facebook Page states. "Tell all your friends who are even marginally interested in writing/books/Shakespeare."

Ray's book is based on Willam Shakespeare's Hamlet, according to the release.

However, it's written from Ophelia's point of view, and Ophelia doesn't die, according to Ray's website Michelle Ray Books.

"Ray, a Montgomery County educator, strives to make Shakespeare 'cool,' relevant, and engaging for today’s students," it states. "In addition to talking about her book, Ms. Ray will also answer questions about Shakespeare, writing and publishing," it states.

Group founders Emma Wheatley, a member of the Class of 2014, and Megan Runge, a member of the Class of 2015, help coordinate events.

Past group meetings have focused on The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern; Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton, and And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, and poems by members.
