You Know You're from Catonsville When...

Fill in the blank Catonsville!

It seems that everyone is all about "stuff people say" video series. From rock climbers (my personal fave) to New Yorkers to Washington, D.C. residents, there's a lot of them floating around.

Also on Patch, some of our have tried soliciting ideas for "you know you're from ___ when..."

In Catonsville, I thought my loyal readers would have some fun with this one. We'll kick off the series with: You know you're from Catonsville when _________.

Let's see who has the most entertaining, original or obvious answer. OK, go!

When you have a 'life is great in 21228' magnet (given to you by dear friends) and you live in 98631 (Long Beach, Washington). And your heart will always be in Catonsville no matter where you live now.

When you see grey-haired dudes and dudettes on Frederick Road with whom you Graduated from Catonsville S.H. in 1959.

when you can eat out every day for over a week and never eat at the same place twice.
Penny Riordan January 27, 2012 at 10:48 PM
Love it Ron! Did you call your classmates dudes and dudettes in 1959? I wasn't around then... ;)

When you see a sign that says Swimwear and Tuxedos sold in the same shop! That always makes me smile.

When you have the second-best Patch editor in the land, behind Odenton.
Lisa Boone January 28, 2012 at 03:11 PM
You can get your prescriptions filled and buy your wine and beer at the same place!
Cindy H January 28, 2012 at 03:39 PM
And when you remember the horses who lived on Hilton Ave.

When you are related by blood or marriage to at least three people at any local gathering and your family has lived in the same house or neighborhood for generations...
Ron Wise January 28, 2012 at 07:52 PM
Hee hee...Can't remember what we called 'em back then. Guys and Gals, I guess. I'm lucky if I can remember what I had for breakfast.
Ron Wise January 28, 2012 at 07:53 PM
I'd say, Penny's the best!

When you work at the Catonsville library and at least one person every day asks you "are you related to the Farrells on ..." (The answer is yes, and keep asking, I love it!)

don't forget the "Varsity" Brian. that was the place to head out to before Champs. And love Cindy H - i've lived in the same house since 1979 - my maternal grandmother's since she passed away - and it is one house over from where i grew up in my parents' home. Have lived in Catonsville for 60 + years. And just about all my family live within a 10 miles radius too. it's great!
Ron Wise February 07, 2012 at 03:31 PM

Does anyone else have any topics for Fill in the Blank? So far we've done this one, as well as my favorite weekend activity is ___ and my biggest gripe is ____
Stuart Merenbloom February 21, 2012 at 03:39 PM
I think that Pappy's was on Frederick Rd......used to go there for dinner when I was attending Baltimore Junior College
Ron Wise February 22, 2012 at 04:35 PM
Oh yeah! The Varsity! Right out of "Grease". As I recall, they would bring your order out to your car and hang it on your window ledge. Don't think the waiters had roller skates though.
Linda Dalfonzo February 26, 2012 at 12:10 AM
how about your favorite bike or foot path
Toni R January 19, 2013 at 09:10 PM
I loved the "long champ sandwich" which was made with ham instead of a burger. I know it was a hangout spot but I never knew why the teens rode in circles around the restaurant. We used to have the school bus driver drop us off at Champs rather than go immediately home.
Sharon Stanton January 22, 2013 at 03:01 PM
pappys was located in the Ingleside Shopping Center where Chick-fil-A is now. never on Frederick Road, that i can remember.
Sanchez January 22, 2013 at 03:24 PM
You know your from Catonsville when you put chairs on Frederic Road in May for the parade in July!
Sanchez January 22, 2013 at 03:25 PM
You know you're from Catonsville when you love the greasy bag of french fries from Mr G's.
Sanchez January 22, 2013 at 03:28 PM
You know you're form Catonsville when you can tell stories about a car load of friends at the midnight showing of some horror movie at the Edmondson Drive In.
Stuart Merenbloom January 22, 2013 at 04:21 PM
I remember going to pappy's on fred. rd??? there was a varsity where chic fil et is as well as a mexican place
Sharon Stanton January 22, 2013 at 04:23 PM
varsity was located about where burger king and the big office building is located. Champs was in ingleside shopping center parking lot and so was Pappy's Pizza. Truthfully, never remember Pappy's ever being located on Fred Rd at all. Sorry
