Veteran 'Knighted' by French for D-Day Service: 'We Knew It was a Rough Day Coming'

Charlestown WWII veteran named Chevalier in Franch Legion of Honor

Harper Griswold, the 88-year-old World War II veteran of D-Day profiled on Patch, was named a Chevalier, or knight, in the French Legion of Honor Monday in a ceremony at the French Embassy in Washington, D.C.

"We knew it was a rough day coming," an official with the embassy said in reading a veteran's memories of D Day.

Griswold is a resident of the Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville.
