Round Up: Family Fun Events in Baltimore County Memorial Day Weekend

Here are some fun things to do around town with the kids this weekend.

  •  Why go: See thousands of reptiles from around the world and live animal presentations.
  • Pricing: Adults: $12 (online), $15 (at the door), Children $5, Children under 4 are free

Tales and Tails

  • Where/When: 11201 Garrison Forest Rd., Owings Mills, Maryland 21117, Friday, May 25, 2012, 10:45 a.m.  
  •  Why to go: Join Irvine for a few animal stories followed by a close-up interaction with an animal friend! Pre-K to first-grade children need to be accompanied by an adult.

Spring Family Night Hike and Campfire

  •  Why to go:  Let’s take a night hike to look for nocturnal animals, listen for frog calls and test our senses in the dark. We’ll finish the hike with a campfire and s’mores. Ages 7 and up (with adult).

Natural Nick’s Produce at The Catonsville Sunday Farmer’s Market

  • Where/When: 730 Frederick Rd, Catonsville, MD, 10:00 a.m – 1:30 p.m, Rain or Shine.
  • Why to go: A growing numbers of vendors offer a wonderful array of Maryland farm-fresh foods, from bison meat, poultry, pork and eggs, to produce, fruits and herbs, with baked goods and unique specialty items rounding out the offerings.
  • But that’s just the beginning. Throughout the season local musicians and community organizations will participate in the market. The Chamber's Sunday venue is a community event where you’ll gather with friends and neighbors for a relaxed, old-fashioned farmers’ market experience.

Canoe and Kayak Tour

  • Why to go:  Bring your own boat for this Ranger led paddle around Lake Roland. Explore the length of the lake looking for wildlife and learning about the history of Baltimore’s first public reservoir. All participants must wear a life jacket and participants under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

  • Where/When:  Maryland Science Center, St. John Properties IMAX Theater,  601 Light St, Baltimore, MD,  Friday, May 25, 2012, 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m. (Additional show times)
  • Why to go: Get chummy with massive underwater predators of the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods in Sea Rex 3D: Journey to a Prehistoric World, now playing in the St. John Properties IMAX Theater.
  • Pricing: $8 (Tickets to Sea Rex 3D are also available as part of admission to the Maryland Science Center).

 

  • Where/When: SPAGnVOLA Chocolatier Truffle Factory, 360 Main St, Gaithersburg, MD, 2-6 p.m.
  • Why to go:  Come visit The Truffle Factory and take a FREE factory tour and learn about the origin of cacao trees, how they are harvested, fermented, dried and then subsequently turned into premium single-estate chocolate.
