Blog Recap: National Road Yard Sale Day in Catonsville

Churches, business owners, residents set out their stuff today.

(UPDATED 1:40 p.m.) Things are wrapping along Frederick Road, and at the Catonsville Assembly of God there were plenty of people disappointed the fun was over.

Pastor Meghan Weber said the church typically has a yard sale on Memorial Day, but decided to move it this year to coincide with the National Road Yard Sale. In addition to the items for sale, the church had a dunk tank and a silent auction.

The event was organized by the as a way to promote Catonsville and also to coordinate between the many yard sales that occurr on a typical weekend.

Both Barbara Beem and Sharon Stanton, who are members of the society, said they are already making plans for next year. Proceeds from the sale will go to the Catonsville Emergency Food Ministry.

"I think it's been a great day," Stanton said.

(UPDATED 12:45 p.m.) Over on the east side of Catonsville in Paradise and Dunmore there are also a lot of spots, including and .

Emanuel's Pastor Janet Becker said the church decided to participate and opened the church parking lot for community members to rent. They had a total of 17 people selling on the site.

Proceeds from the rent will go towards the church's missions and outreach programs, including the Maryland Food Bank, Becker said.

"We've had a lot of traffic," she said. "It's been a beautiful day."

(UPDATED 11:20 a.m.) Outside , items from the store's storage unit were out front at discounted prices. Visitors were starting to pick up mid-morning, employees said.

Already by mid-morning, Niki Hord had sold an entire collection of Victorian scraps and tins that she had outside of Objects Found.

"Things like this bring out collectors," she said.

Across the street, had items outside for sale, as well as T-shirts promoting the Fourth of July parade.

The day has finally come in Catonsville for the .

Catonsville's participation is part of a larger effort to fill the historic road--here it's Frederick Road with as much as stuff as people want to sell.
