Group Seeks Volunteers to Clean Short Line Trail

The project is slated to start Saturday morning.

Members of a Catonsville group are looking for volunteers, supplies and donations as they get ready to clean the Short Line Trail Saturday.

The cleanup, organized by Catonsville Rails to Trails, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers can check in at the intersection of Maiden Choice Lane and Garden Ridge Road.

The trail was resurfaced last week, but still needs cleaning, a volunteer said.

"This is all the stuff like the branches falling during the winter, and the debris from when they were putting the trail in," said Maureen Sweeney Smith, a member of CRTT's board of directors and executive director of the Catonsville Community Foundation.

Smith said the group is also asking volunteers to bring yard tools, chainsaws, gloves and trucks to help clear and carry away brush.

Smith said she expects 25 to 30 volunteers, and said the group's cleanups occasionally attract students.

"These are just nice people in the neighborhood who want to be a part of something really cool," she said.

Smith said CRTT is also seeking donations to help with this and other cleanups. Gifts can be made online.
