Former Catonsville 2020 Members Still Seek Frederick Road Improvements

The group merged last year with the economic development committee of the Greater Catonsville Chamber of Commerce.

Catonsville 2020 no longer exists, but volunteers say they're still working to improve the Frederick Road corridor after the group merged with a business organization.

"We decided, what the heck, we're all volunteers, we value our time. Why are we meeting twice on the same issues," Scott Graham, former co-chairman of Catonsville 2020 who is now in that role for the economic development committee of the Greater Catonsville Chamber of Commerce, told the Catonsville Times. "So I just suggested to the group that we fold up our tent, hand off our recommendations to the chamber and give it our remaining budget."

Before the merger, Catonsville 2020 had been active in soliciting community feedback and promoting initiatives like easier parking and walkability changes on the Frederick Road corridor. It merged with the chamber committee last year.

Parking is still an issue, group members tell the paper, with a shortage of properly marked parking.

"There is absolutely no shortage of parking," member Kirby Spencer told the paper. "It's just 90 percent of it is private."

The county this month approved plans to install new parking kiosks to replace meters on Frederick Road, according to the Times. That would allow drivers to pay once for parking and move their cars without losing money paid into the meter.

Since the merger, the economic development committee used leftover funds from Catonsville 2020 to start a grant program. The group is also painting a bus shelter on Frederick Road and is working on a logo for the Paradise business district, the paper reports.
