Catonsville Trots for Turkey

High school's cross country team and Y of Catonsville partner together for the seventh annual 5k.

Rain or cold temperatures didn't deter roughly 350 runners from getting up early on Thanksgiving and running the Turkey Trot 5k.

"We've run it in monsoons before," said Sandra Gallagher-Mohler, the cross country coach, who organizes the race.

The cross country style race goes around the grounds of Catonsville High School and the morning rain didn't make the course too muddy.

This is the first time the high school has partnered with the Y, Gallagher-Mohler said. The race also grew this year by about 300 people.

In addition to the 5k, a one-mile kid's fun run was also held. The money raised from the race goes to the cross country team, as well as kid's programs at the Y.

Ty Stump, 19, who won the race, is a Catonsville High graduate. He used to help out at the race when he was a student at the school.

"I like running it more," he said.
