A brawl outside a Towson bar Sunday is not comparable to violence in the Inner Harbor, according to Del. Pat McDonough.
McDonough, a Middle River Republican, called the fight outside the Recher Theater that resulted in seven arrests "an anomaly" and not comparable to incidents in the city that he blamed on "black youth mobs."
"I believe what happened in Towson is an anomaly," McDonough said. "It's the result of poor planning and putting too many people in too small an area."
McDonough praised County Executive Kevin Kamenetz and Baltimore County police Chief Jim Johnson for acting quickly.
Kamentez blamed owners of the bar for the fight. The county executive and the police chief said most of the people involved in the fight came from outside the county.
"The county executive and the police chief quickly acknowledged there was an issue and they're working to make sure it never happens again," McDonough said. "This is not what the mayor did."
In May, McDonough issued statements sharply critical of Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake's handing of several incidents in the Inner Harbor area. McDonough blamed the violence on "black youth mobs" and accused Rawlings-Blake and state officials of covering it up.
He also said the Inner Harbor should be declared a "no travel zone."
Two weeks ago, Rawlings-Blake highlighted the safety of the area, according to the Baltimore Sun.

I think Delegate Mc Donough should stick to his "Pat and Pizza" parties.....and stop making comments about issues he knows nothing about.

What makes you say he knows nothing about the incident? Is this in his district?

The first time something like this happened in Baltimore was probably considered an anomaly also. (Although that was probably 200 years ago. Baltimore has a long history of mob violence). The quick reaction by our leaders is what is needed to keep this sort of thing from becoming a regular occurrence.

What in the heck is Boss Hogg talking about?
"The county executive and the police chief quickly acknowledged there was an issue and they're working to make sure it never happens again," McDonough said. "This is not what the mayor did."
Has there been any further incidences of mob violence at the harbor since then? No.

Baltimore is in more danger from bigoted state representatives than "black youth mobs."

I completely disagree.
It's not a bigoted statement if it's factually accurate.
Bigotry comes from when it's not factual, or simply an assumption based on bigotry.
I am ALL for calling out racism and bigotry when it's fairly warranted. I've done so here on Patch on other occasions. It's definitely, and sadly out there.
Reality is though, the Delegate is 100% correct in his 'Black youth mobs" commentary on that occasion. Proven accurate from police reports. Does he go overboard a bit? Perhaps.

"Kamentez blamed owners of the bar for the fight. The county executive and the police chief said most of the people involved in the fight came from outside the county."
The owner of the bar contracted to a third party. The place only holds 630 people. Apparently this third party sold way over that amount. This promoter had events in other counties that fell through and directed patrons from those events to the Recher. The ones who could not get in caused all the trouble. Now Kamenetz wants to blame the owner of Recher. Ridiculous! Political correctness is reaching new heights here. The county police won't even give the name of the promoter. Baltimore County police chief James Johnson said that one of the people charged was a college student, but he did not know which school he attended? Come on. Blame the people who oversold the event. Blame the local chapter of the fraternity. Blame the national fraternity. Blame the thugs and criminals who caused all the trouble. But blame the owner of the Recher and try to take away his liquor license? No way.
M. Sullivan

I keep hearing that this event was "oversold". There were no advance ticket sales, as there should have been. It was first come, first served, tickets at the door.

Why won't they disclose WHO oversold and re-directed these people to the Recher ? Maybe they are related to Kamentez or Johnson ? They should disclose who the person is who created this problem. Let these disgruntled patrons/thugs invade his neighborhood.

Is Pat McDonough a blowhard? Yeah, I guess. But I would rather have people like him in office who speak their minds, instead of a guy like Kamenetz who, instead of putting blame on the promoters and the fraternity involved, blames the owner of the bar.

McDonough will say anything to get a headline. I got this from conservatives in his district. His ignorant statements are dangerous to our county and city. He is not ethically suited to hold office.

Why would anyone vote for no more guns? While I am neither democrat or republican because I choose to vote for myself, not a laundry list of someone else's ideas, I certainly wouldn't vote to take away our right to protect ourselves. Properly educated and trained, with a safe and proper safety measures in place, ownership of a personal firearm is safe and effective. I wouldn't hesitate to use my training to eliminate an intruder or threat to my family. Unarmed, we are potential victims.

I think it's hysterical how nobody is placing blame on the animals that couldn't exercise self control. Whether the event was oversold, undersold or whatever - since when does that give these idiots a ticket to assault police officers. Too bad the cops couldn't split their heads open but we all know how that would have turned out. Where are the black community leaders and politicians that should be condemning this behavior?

They are waiting until someone comes forward with a story about a black youth who was "assaulted" by a police officer during the near riot and how, although he was a participant, was targeted due to the color of his skin. So sick of the race card used for everything.

So, it's OK for say, black leaders to vilify for example a white sports team falsely accused of raping a young black woman, only to find out she made the whole thing up, ruining the lives of some of those involved, yet if someone says it like it is that's not OK? They stood outside (and when I say I'm talking about those racist pigs Sharpton and Jackson and their supporters) crying out for justice and against oppression, but when someone speaks the truth, that's not OK? Whatever.

It is still confusing how a portion of society can behave this way. I just don't understand how people can behave this way.

I find it sad that black leaders and black religious leaders SELDOM have anything to say when violence is committed by young black adults. BUT, let a supposed injustice be committed against a black person and let the protesting begin. Sorry, but it works both ways. Call these people out when they commit acts of violence and are disrupting a community with their irresponsible behavior.
