The O’s are playing great baseball.
They’re tied with the New York Yankees atop the American League East with just 20 games to play in the regular season. They've already won 80 games and need to win two more to assure a winning season.
On Thursday afternoon they will try to sweep AL East rivals the Tampa Bay Rays downtown at Oriole Park at Camden Yards before heading to the West Coast for series with the Oakland A’s and Seattle Mariners.
Right now the city is buzzing with excitement about a team it has learned to forget by the All-Star break for the most part during the past 14 years of losing seasons.
But when the O’s called Memorial Stadium home, that usually wasn’t the case.
From the time the St. Louis Browns became the Baltimore Orioles and began playing at Memorial Stadium in 1954, to the final game on 33rd Street against the Detroit Tigers 1991, the Orioles made the playoff eight times, played in the World Series six times and won it three times, according to Baseball-Reference.com.

Watching the Orioles come from behind and score 11 runs in the ninth and win the game. Listening to Chuck Thompson call the game on radio. Ain't the beer cold, Go to war Miss Agnes, I'm a country boy, Wild Bill Hagey, feeling the upper decks shake from pounding and also crying the last game at Memorial Stadium watching the Field of Dreams. We loved the Orioles and maybe the best memory of all, watching my daughter get married in Memorial Stadium just before the last game. Palmer, Brooks and the rest will live forever in our memories. Meeting Luke Scott last season and getting his autograph. Also being there when they actually got the wave to go around the stadium a few times!

Watching a game from a seat behind the left field wall at Memorial Stadium on a warm summer evening. Listening to the O's and Reds on the car radio as a kid while our family was heading to the Maine Coast for vacation. Yes, even watching them against the Miracle Mets in '69, the year I became an O's fan living in Upstate NY.

I agree with Pat on all his memories, but as a season ticket holder from the 80s on, my most unforgettable moments at Memorial Stadium were for the "Last Game", when Mike Flanagan took the field in relief, and then when the "Field of Dreams" music started playing. Fans all around me, including myself, were teary-eyed. For the Yard, it will be Cal's 2166 game, but at Memorial Stadium it was the Last Game.

My favorite memory from Memorial Stadium was on my best friend's 13th birthday, April 1979. We took the park and ride bus down to the stadium by ourselves. We had great seats, right behind the O's dugout. I can't remember who they were playing or what happened, but a HUGE fight broke out right in front of us, LOTS of players involved, and of course Earl Weaver too. We couldn't believe our luck, to be so close to the action! Usually, we would sit in the upper deck, but because of the birthday, we had extra special seats. Of course, the stadium went NUTS, cheering our guys on. I can't even remember if we won or lost that game, but it didn't matter to Jul and me. We experienced the passion of Earl Weaver, the O's, and their crazy, wonderful fans up close and personal. Best birthday ever.

As kids we used to take the bus with just our cousins to Memorial Stadium for games from Irvington. That was of course was when the city was safe. One of the best times growing up

Going to "Thanks Brooks Day" honoring Brooks Robinson as he ended his career on Sept. 18, 1977. Sat right behind the dugout, third base side !
