Work Starts on Turf Field at Mount De Sales Academy
The new field is expected to be completed by August.
Mount De Sales Academy is hoping to hold athletic team tryouts this August on a new $1.5 million playing field designed for soccer, field hockey, lacrosse and softball.
The school began construction on the field this month as part of Phase 2 of its capital improvement campaign. So far the school has raised $863,000.
According to school officials, it will be the first turf field in the Baltimore area that is designed to accommodate softball.
The existing athletic field is not regulation size and cannot be used for soccer games. It is currently used for field hockey, lacrosse and physical education activities.
Phase I of the capital campaign raised $5.5 million for a new convent for the Dominican sisters and a new heating and cooling system for the school.
The total cost of the campaign is $15.5 million. Phase 3 is to include a fine arts center.
More information on the capital campaign is available on the school's website.

Many thanks to the contributors to these capital campaigns. Our daughter graduated on Saturday in a cool, air conditioned Music Hall at MdSA. It will be exciting having a new field too!
