Van Jones To Lecture at CCBC Catonsville
Jones visit next month is in celebration of Black History Month.
Van Jones, a clean energy and human rights pioneer, will be coming to CCBC in February as a guest lecturer for the President's Distinguished African-American Lecture Series.
Jones will lecture at 11:15 a.m. Feb. 21 at CCBC Catonsville's Q Theatre.
His talk will be based on his 2009 bestseller The Green-Collar Economy: How One Solution Can Solve our Two Biggest Problems.
TIME magazine picked Jones as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2009. In addition, Rolling Stone magazine named him as one of "12 Leaders Who Get Things Done. Ebony magazine had him on its "Power 150" list of influential African-Americans.
He also served as the green jobs advisor at the White House four years ago, and the aforementioned book was a New York Times bestseller.
This event is both free and open to the public. Tickets are needed for entry, and Jones will talking with those who are there afterwards in the Q Lounge.
Call the CCBC Box Office at 443-840-2787 for information.

"Van Jones, a clean energy and human rights pioneer, " What "pioneering" work has he done in the field of human rights? Social Justice is his issue. Newspeak.
Why did the story leave out he is a self professed communist?
"In 1992, Van Jones founded another STORM project, Bay Area PoliceWatch, a "hotline and lawyer-referral service for victims and survivors of police abuse." This is fitting, perhaps, since Jones was himself arrested and detained briefly during a protest after the Rodney King verdict that same year. "
" I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th [1992], and then the verdicts came down on April 29th. By August, I was a communist. (...)
Jones told the East Bay Express in 2005:" I met all these young radical people of color – I mean really radical: communists and anarchists. And it was, like, 'This is what I need to be a part of.' I spent the next ten years of my life working with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a revolutionary."

Watch this radical man speak. Truly radical.
"In the passionate lecture, Van called Republicans and those who oppose the president “treasonous” and created an allegory where they wish to let people die on a beach.
Jones likened Obama to a lifeguard trying to save people after a disaster and the Republicans as people wishing to “cut the rope” the lifeguard is throwing. Jones went on to describe the Republican vantage point as this:
“Let the bodies pile up on the beach. Let the pain accumulate. Because our view is this: If enough dead bodies pile up on this beach they are going to fire the lifeguard and we can get the lifeguard’s job.”"

“We just won a tremendous victory because we didn’t bow down, and buckle down, and hand the country over to the worst people ever born,” Jones told an appreciative crowd of several hundred in Pauley Ballroom, site of this year’s Mario Savio Memorial Lecture. "
http://newscenter.berkeley.edu/2012/11/30/van-jones-savio-lecture/
The story does not note he resigned as Green Job Czar due to his radical political background.
"White House environmental adviser Van Jones resigned late Saturday after a simmering controversy over his past statements and activism erupted into calls for his ouster from Republican leaders on Friday."
"His one-time involvement with the Bay Area radical group Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement (STORM), which had Marxist roots, had also become an issue. And on Saturday his advocacy on behalf of death-row inmate Mumia Abu-Jamal, who was convicted of shooting a Philadelphia police officer in 1981, threatened to develop into a fresh point of controversy."

I know CCBC probably needs to do something - but what has this person accomplished? I see him from time to time on some station making no sense whatsoever, but what has he done? It appears he never held a real job, and probably received funds from Soros type groups to fund his lifestyle. But what has he done? The Ivy League Schooling - big deal, look at what our so call elites who went to these schools and have ruined the country. Based on his nutty views, how he was accepted is baffling, but one can guess.
If folks were to follow his views and action plan, they would more than likely wind up in jail or on the government dole than a contributing member of society. I wish the left would expose him and other folks for the exploitation of the black community. We need to expose the real threats to this community!!
It could have been worse, Elijah could have been the speaker. Why not Thomas Sowell (sp).
Van Jones has accomplished about as much for the left as Joe The Plumber has done for the right.

What has he done to be distinguished? He has never held a job, did not start a business. If kids would follow his advice about "revloluion", they would more likely than not wind up unemployed and one the government dole. It could have been worse, they could have pulled Elijah Cummins out of mothballs. Was Thomas Sowell not available?

Dr. Kurtinitis hails an avowed communist and revolutionary, Van Jones, as a " clean energy and human rights pioneer" and even notes him as a distinguished guest lecturer for the President's Distinguished African-American Lecture Series. The next four years in this country are going to be quite noteworthy...sadly beginning at our community colleges, even. Very noteworthy, indeed Dr. Kurtinitis!

No SMEAR CAMPAIGN darling...FACTS!!! Actually Stevee, the White House folks did not back him up...they came up with some kind of response that his post was not important enough to have done some really good background checks (Gibbs) and so the darling dutifully stepped down so that his assignment would not interfere with the important work of the administration. (Isn't he a thoughtful angel?) And weren't they so very in your face..accept our explanation or not..tuff, wuff! Buck.. you ask: Is a protest gathering permit needed for a community college? Not sure, but a more clear picture of where funding donations are distributed within the budget would be interesting to know. Worthy protests would most likely be countered by stark media attention focused on making citizens look like far right wing kooks and would do little to advance the education of the student population, but actually play right into the hands of far left wing angels. Distortion of the education message is such a great tool of those who would undermine our system. I remember a conversation long ago with a communista who declared that they would "..first get into your schools!" I laughed and laughed...not in our schools you won't I responded with absolute certainty...ahhh yes, that was a long time ago and they have been most patient...As Van Jones would say..."..get a foot in the door."

CCBC does - in my opinion, do a great job helping folks continue their education. Some folks move on to 4 year colleges, or to jobs in the trades. Some drop out - realizing they should go another route.
The problem I have with Van Jones is - in this economy, I believe CCBC should have an "all hands on deck to train students for jobs" mentality. Mr. Jones has done a great job in marketing Mr. Jones. We need speakers who have prospered in business, or their vocation and as a result, have lifted others with them. The policies of Van Jones do not do that. He is not a scientist, and talks very often of dividing the country. His nastiness to those who oppose him are beneath the dignity of CCBC and the students who come to CCBC in hopes of moving forward in life.
We have double the unemployment rate for blacks than whites nationwide. The policies of division practiced by Van Jones and his crew are simply not the policies of employers, who need the best person ready to join and be part of a team and be a sponge for the vocation they choose.
Van Jones will leave the talk with a few more books sold to the suckers who buy the books, his far left street cred increased, and a few more dollars able to fund the Van Jones lifestyle. The poor saps who purchased his books will be left holding the bag - the permanent underclass established by Mr. Jones and crew.
