Two Men Sentenced for Thomas Murder

Damonya Cook and Keith Burgess were convicted for their involvement in the Feb. 19, 2011 death of Vincent Thomas in Baltimore Highlands.

Two men have been sentenced for their part in the shooting death of Vincent Thomas.

Damonya Cook and Keith Burgess were sentenced Thursday in Baltimore County Circuit Court by Judge Ann Brobst, according to a statement released by Baltimore County State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger.

Damonya Cook was sentenced to life in prison and a five-year consecutive sentence. Burgess was sentenced to life with all but 35 years
suspended.

Thomas was found shot to death in a field at Annapolis Road and Illinois Avenue in Baltimore Highlands on February 19, 2011. He was shot four times in the back and once in the chest.

Cook and Burgess were arrested about a month later.

Police believe an ongoing dispute between Cook and Thomas led to the shooting. Damonya Cook ambushed Vincent Thomas as he walked toward a
Light Rail stop.

Burgess helped Cook in both the ambush and the disposal of the gun, according to the statement.

"He was shot four times in the back and once in the chest. "

If these thugs shot the guy in the chest first and then 4 more times in the back, neither should ever breath the air again. Time for all murderers to face the same fate as their victims. We all know that soon the bleeding hearts will be whining that life without parole is "cruel and usual punishment".

Actually Joe you are more than right. In MD the bleeding hearts want to let them out one day and even allow them to vote. If only they were as concerned for the victims and their families. Let us pray for all the victims of violent crime and their families.
May God embrace Vincent Thomas, may His love and mercy be extended to all who loved him. Peace.

Ask the Thomas family how they feel about it. None of my family members are animals like your lil cousin. If they were, I would be content to see them meet with justice.

I am very sorry for what he did....the Damonya that I know wouldn't have done such a hurtful thing...I have no idea what went on for this to occur but I do know that there is no excuse for taking another life. I didn't mean to make it seem like he didn't deserve it, it just hurts reading these things about a loved one. If he wasn't a family member I'm pretty sure I would feel the same way you all do. I am sorry for what my cousin did and he does deserve to be punished and again I apologize for my selfish comment.

jennifer has done what few today seem capable of. Apologizing for a comment even when it was made in the heat of a terribly emotional incident.
You deserve much credit jennifer for coming back and posting that. It shows all is not lost in the families of these kinds of perpetrators.

Jennifer, thank you for apologizing. Most people feel for the victim that is killed. I am sorry your family member has to go to jail but that is justice. You do the crime, you do the time.

Fifa, if you didn't have such vile preconceptions of those who you do not agree with you may not be so surprised. As for falling for it? I take people's word until I have a reason to be suspicious.

Possibly anoher plea bargain from our SA Scott Schelenberger. And jennifer now you might feel what the victims family went through.

I did think about it and your cousin took part in a cold blooded murder. Don't worry he'll be back on the streets again. A life sentence means little. Now life without parole, that is a different story. That is the deal you work out with the SA and Schellenberger.

Jennifer, I give you credit for having the courage to make that comment. I know how you feel. It happens in many of our families and many times we are hurt and dismayed but we can't control what an adult does.

I just watched my Mon die a horrible death and was ignored by ManorCare during my death watch.

Yes, two, but I have no doubt not to believe her or if someone is defending the family name in the name of justice.

What is your point your are trying to make and we can address it. I think I know where your going with this but I'm not a mind reader.

What I find strange is that there are those on the left that call me a racist and yet my blog on Jacque draws no comment from the naysayers.

The point is the following Buzz. I have observed almost every time a story like this one is posted, or the death in KIngsville this morning, there is almost always a first time poster making first time comments similar to Jennifer's. What is the likelihood that this is just a coincidence? Maybe I have a little bit of conspiracy theory in me, but the almost 100% occurrence of these posts, I would expect might raise your suspicions as well. The posters always seem to find the Patch right after a death and then never post again. Simply amazing.

I could be wrong. But these posters are clearly statistically significant.

Amazingly, I agree with FIFA on this one. I have noticed the same thing. I highly doubt that relatives of these people are such regular (if at all) readers of the Patch that they would be instantly commenting. It may not be the same person, though.

Buzz Beeler

FIFA you might be completly right. The writing along gives it away. The first comment was grammatically horrible. The second was quite different but why?

Perhaps and older relative who hand some sense used jennifers account too log in because they felt it was wrong? I don't know. If I had a child that said something like that I might, as a parent I might try and straighten it out.

I agree but somebody felt there was a mistake made and if I say it what do you think people would say to me? There goes Buzz the racists again.

Sure this can be suspicious but remember I have a last name and get tired of dealing with people that don't and can call you anything they want until they are stopped.

I'll let NY deal with the one side and I'll deal with the other.

I would wait too see if there is another response and we can gather more information.

My cousin DID NOT kill that boy. He had too much too live for before this corrupt system wrongfully accused him of murder, a previous fight doesn't make you a murder. The truth will eventually come out and Damonya will be home. Its in god's hands now, so we will be seeing you soon Damonya, love you
