Timonium Gun Show Gets Boost From Talk of Assault Rifle Ban

The fairly regular event at the Maryland State Fairgrounds drew an early line Friday and is expected to grow Saturday.

Gun enthusiasts lined up around Exhibition Hall at the Maryland State Fairgrounds Friday, drawn to this weekend's gun show because of fears about possible new laws in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre

"Because people are scared," Neil Kravitz, a spokesman for the gun show, said. "The minute they say the word 'gun ban' 300 million guns are going to change hands.

"It’s no different than going on the air and saying 'there’s going to be a snowstorm,'" he continued. "Then [the supermarkets] run out of toilet paper. There is no difference."

Increased gun control has been something many local leaders, such as County Executive Kevin Kamenetz and Police Chief Jim Johnson, as well as Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and Police Commissioner Anthony Batts, have been vocally supporting in the wake of December's tragedy.

Kamenetz called on lawmakers to tighten Maryland's gun laws in December, and proposed ending the sale of "military-grade assault weapons" and magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. Rawlings-Blake, along with Baltimore City and Montgomery County state lawmakers, also voiced their support for a plethora of new gun control measures during a press conference last month.

Although this weekend's show has a higher profile in light of the recent debate about firearms, the gun show, presented by Appalachian Promotions, is a common event at the fairgrounds with multiple dates scheduled throughout the year. The show features 650 tables filled with guns, ammunition, apparel and novelties.

Gun shops, as well as shows, are benefiting from a "back lash" caused by talk of banning assault weapons coming from the White House and now the State House, said Kravitz, who is also a vendor and owner of NSK Company Ltd.

But Kravitz said sales were already on the uptick when President Barack Obama won his second term in office, because of fears about the president's gun policies.

"Then this awful thing happens in Connecticut and whatever was left is now gone. And you [don't] get ramped up again until January [when stores begin to carry more inventory]," he said.

As a result of the spike in demand, coupled with limited inventory following the holidays, the price of weaponry has also skyrocketed.

Kravitz and a friend, a regular at the show, joked about a particular gun on sale at another table that rose in price from $1,200 to $2,000 since the last time the show came to the fairgrounds.

"There’s no supply. And there’s demand. What does that do to cost? What happens when there’s no gasoline and you’re the only one whose got some? … Welcome to inflation," Kravtiz said.

Doors to the show opened Friday at noon, and it will run through the weekend. Promoters and vendors are bracing for the biggest crowd on Saturday.

The line Friday was filled with customers hoping to re-up on ammunition that gun owners haven't been able to find at stores.

"Everything is picked clean," Mike Storck, a local comedian and Parkville resident, said. "It’s so stupid. It’s like Beanie Babies."

Storck, who has been on the hunt for a new barrel for his AR-15, said even supplies that are not theoretically in jeopardy are flying off the shelves.

He said he noticed vendors, who are normally at the Timonium gun show, were absent, most likely because they don't have enough inventory.

"Maybe they’re sold out," he said. "Obviously there are plenty of tables, but you’re seeing a lot more knives, and dream catchers, and t-shirts, and beef jerky in a can, stuff like that."

He said concerns about possible bans are resulting in more interest in weapons that just resemble assault rifles.

"Even if it’s a .22-caliber Plinkster, but it looks like an AK or an AR, people are looking at it," Storck said. "It's so far removed from the gun they’re talking about, but just because it looks like it, people are fawning over it."

The gun show opens again Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are $8.

The car example is old. If you drive over the speed limit and kill someone by accident, you will most likley lose your right to drive and you will go to jail because someone died due to your negligent use of your vehicle. If you kill someone with a your registered pistol or a hunting rifle by accident, chances are, you will not go to jail.
The NRA opened the door on the mental health issue. NIMH reported that 1 in 4 americans has a mental health issue in any given year. CNN neurologist S. Gupta said the number is 1 in 5 for children. According to NIMH over 26 million people have already been diagnosed with depression and mood disorders, major factors in suicides and in homicides within families. If we say that there can be no guns in the homes where these people live, we'll get a lot of guns out of american homes. All the govt needs to do is look at insurance company records for anyone who has had a diagnosis with these and other specified mental illnesses. I applaud the NRA for suggesting an acceptable way to pair down not only assault weapons, but all weapon types in the American homes.

Psychotropic drugs? Like every single mass shooter was under the influence of when they committed their reign of murderous terror? The truth must not get out, otherwise how will the new world order controlled government disarm the citizens of the USA? It's much more politically correct and tyrannical to advance the anti gun agenda. Unfortunately for the NWO, the sleeping giant (the people of the USA) are awaking.

Especially when it has been specifically set in place by tyrannical loose talk from government sources and irresponsible news papers darlings. Interesting that you find it all so amusing Honeygo Hal. And even, when reviewing historical tyrannical moves in other countries in not that too distant past, you would still come to the conclusion that this is "paranoia"....mmmmm. Try to focus just a bit on responses such as Chicago's current Mayor regarding his feeling that one should always take advantage of a negative. Then perhaps step back a bit and watch how these tragedies are being addressed politically...and don't leave anything out. Just a thought!

If our government wanted to turn tyrannical, individuals with AR-15s would not be enough to fend them off.

My comment stands. If you read the comments of most gun enthusiasts with an unbiased eye, it cannot be disputed that paranoia is rampant. That is part of the reason it is scary.

Tim and I disagree on the gun registry list. When someone is amassing weapons and ammunition, I want the police to know about it. We know if they are attempting to buy the chemicals to make bombs. I sure do want to know about someone amassing thousands of rounds of ammunition, especially .223 or other military equivalent cartridges. There is no rational reasoning for that, unless there is a wire is shorted in their brain.

I think the race baiting on here by a couple of people in particular, is getting a little old. I would be interested to know if this violates the patch policy....Nick Dimarco? I know that profanity, threats, etc obviously do, but it seems to me for people such as the one above and another below who engage in essentially calling people racists when the subject is not even about race but they just don't like their view and want to delegitimize it. I remember when I was a kid my grandfather told me that those who used a lot of profanity probably had a very small vocabulary and that is why they talked like that. I would say it's also true that those who use this site to call others racist probably have very weak arguments and therefore have little else to do but play the race card. And btw, I'm all for free speech but we know there are limits, as the liberals would say on gun rights too. Anyway I hope the patch editor could shed some light on this one.

I agree Honeygo. People are a tad off their rockers these days. And as to the tyranny concern, our president can only be tyrannical for 8 years and even then we would have voted him or her in, twice. As far as the rest of them, we vote them in every 2 & 6 years. It's our own fault if we keep voting in the same tyrannical congressman from the 5th district or senator world order man from Iowa. What we have and will always have is a govt in and by our own hands. Blaming others, while easy, is futile. We voted in Obama and Biden, Boehner and Pelosi, McConnell and Reed. They are us. And we are to blame if they aren't getting it right. If people are so hot for tyranny so they can have big guns, there are many third world countries where they can play Rambo, protecting their families on a regular basis. Here in the US, you or someone living in your home is 22 times more likely to be killed by your gun than an intruder in your home. With odds like that, the only people seeing real action with your gun is you or someone you love.

As anthrogirl suggests, tyrannical takeover probably can't simmer very long - I don't think that is part of the job of the "transition team" to the next president, and I can't imagine Democrats and Republicans agreeing on anything like that. So I'm not too worried about it.

Appalachian has been promoting gun shows for more than 40 years without a single issue of illegal or inappropriate behavior. They do an excellent job, just look at the crowds at Timonium.

The real problem is clowns like OweMalley, Kanenetz, Johnson, Rawlings Blake and bafoons like Biden misrepresenting facts. There is no such thing as an "assault weapon", it is an imaginery name from political hacks and bleeding heart liberals.

Below is some very troubling/factual information that Johnson or Kamenetz or Owe Malley haven't addressed. Why?

My warehouse was broken into 3 plus years ago. The guy who broke into my warehouse stole 85 weapons, including sniper rifles, pistols, shotguns and ammunition. Marcus Manns, the criminal who broke into my warehouse is in jail. I told ATF, the County police, SRB,Dixon, Bealfeld and others that Manns stole these weapons and these clowns did nothing to solve this crime in 3 years. There has been no report on this crime or how many of these weapons have been recovered. Why is this Johnson? The ATF, County Police and Baltimore City police have bungled this "investigation".

These clowns are too interested in standing in the spotlight, promoting their national gun control agenda instead of getting and keeping these criminals off the street. Just last night there were four more murders in Baltimore City.

Law abiding citizens- JOIN the NRA now, support the effort and then "lets throw the bums out". Our Constitution is under attack.

It's not about safety, they (the left) couldn't care less. What they care about is imposing their agenda. The tragedy in CT gave them the perfect opportunity to go for what they've always wanted, which is the strictest gun control laws they can push through. Remember Rahm Emanuel's line about never letting a good crisis go to waste. The funny thing is the states like CA, NY, and MD which already have more gun control laws than most are already talking about imposing more laws. Of course two of those states have governors who want to seek the democrat party nomination in 2016. But I'm sure that has nothing to do with their push in the wake of this tragedy. No, I'm sure they care about "our children" and they only seek to do good. Now that fool Biden is talking about executive orders to impose these measures. Can you imagine if Bush had tried to impose something the left opposed through that? Yes every president has used executive orders but none have abused them like this man. When FDR sought to pack the court in the 1930's, it was the democrats who opposed him. Today the democrat party is encouraging their president to use executive orders on everything from guns to the debt ceiling. The ends justify the means for these people.

1. You are not a progressive, but you state what progressives think.
2. Unless gun laws are universal across all states they are a waste of effort. Gun laws can only work if applied evenly in all states.
3. Bush had executive orders just like every other President, he just liked guns.

You just don't like the Democratic Party. But what is interesting is the Republican Party is shrinking. Then what, "second amendment remedies"? Yea right.

Fefe, the word is Leftist, or statist or socialist- not progressive. Progressive indicates progress, while the things you leftists want to do (socialism for example) have been tried and failed for over a hundred years. If Bush had sought to sign an executive order to push through something around the Congress (like banning abortion let's say) I'm sure you might have been slightly upset, no? But again, when it's your agenda, what you want, you are for doing it by any means necessary. Typical leftist.

Most people do NOT "Know what they mean" when mentioning "Assault Rifles"...

Many in the Media and Government keep referring to machine guns in the same breath as assault weapons...they are not the same thing, and the vague language is intended to create confusion and elicit fear and emotion.

The term "assualt weapons" is a term created by politicians in legislation to describe certain guns, with certain "Features"(mostly only cosmetic mind you)...most of those "Features" do not improve the technical characteristics of the weapon, nor to they increase it's effectiveness or deadliness...they just make it look "Cooler" or look "Tactical"... but ultimately make them no more deadly than a hunting rifle...

Gun laws WORK again!

"Madera pharmacy owners survive shooting, 1 arrested.
The second suspect in a deadly shooting has been arrested in Southeast Fresno. He's accused of trying to kill a Madera pharmacy owner and his mother.

Lee grabbed a gun and started shooting at one of the two suspects.

Police Chief Steve Frazier said he had information that the suspect was shot in the face, in the torso, and then once in the leg.

Frazier said the suspect, 31-year-old Aquilla Bailey, fell to the floor, and then managed to run out of the store and down the block before collapsing. Bailey later died at the hospital.Officers spent the day searching for the second suspect and piecing together a possible motive. "

THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS (NASRO) Press Release:

"Dec, 21, 2012 – Hoover, Ala. – The National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) today responded to school safety recommendations announced by the National Rifle Association (NRA).

QUOTES FROM MR. MO CANADY, EXEC. DIR., NASRO & FORMER SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER

“A well-trained, armed, school-based police officer is one of the best defenses against an active shooter in a school. NASRO agrees that placing school-based police officers in every school that wants one would greatly enhance the safety of children, if such officers are selected carefully and properly trained.”

“School-based policing requires specialized training not covered in most law enforcement academies. Because school resource officers are much more than armed guards, they need training in teaching, counseling and the special skills required to act as a law enforcement officer in a school setting. In addition, we recommend that all school resource officers receive special training to assure that their responses to an active shooter will be safe and effective.”

The NRA has been thoroughly vindicated.

So you conservatives will be willing fork over the tax dollars to put these police officers in schools? Pay for the special training? Cover their absences - sickness, vacation, and training with additional specially-trained officers? Mighty generous of you given what we were hearing before the election...

From the NRA Statement:
"With all the foreign aid, with all the money in the federal budget, we can't afford to put a police officer in every school? "

"Now, the National Rifle Association knows that there are millions of qualified active and retired police; active, reserve and retired military; security professionals; certified firefighters and rescue personnel; and an extraordinary corps of patriotic, trained qualified citizens to join with local school officials and police in devising a protection plan for every school. We can deploy them to protect our kids now . We can immediately make America's schools safer — relying on the brave men and women of America's police force."

"The budget of our local police departments are strained and resources are limited, but their dedication and courage are second to none and they can be deployed right now.I call on Congress today to act immediately, to appropriate whatever is necessary to put armed police officers in every school — and to do it now, to make sure that blanket of safety is in place when our children return to school in January."

Maybe reading the entire statement would have educated you on what they actually said.
The words 'volunteer' or 'volunteers' are not found in the NRA statement even once . Not once. The word 'police' is noted 9 times. The term 'armed guard' is only seen once.

YES! The NRA has been vindicated.

Sanchez, yes I would support a database of all those purchasing a firearm - perhaps starting at some limit (calibre, type of chamber, etc.)

I would also support tracking of every gun sale with serial numbers - we do it with cars, why not guns? Find the gun at a crime scene, you know who owns it. Those that ignore the law would quickly figure out that compliance is in their best interest when law enforcement shows up at their door.

Personally I'm not sure about "psychtropic" drugs - I would let the medical community weigh in on that.

Being in possession of a firearm traced to an armed robbery Frank is a clue to those who can actually think, to those who are coherent, to those who are rational, would lead one to the conclusion he was possibly a gang banger. Yes and yes. Does it aid enforcement? Or does it reflect a national obsession that does nothing--apparently--to solve a problem having to do in the least with crime? The race-based counting accomplishes nothing. It does no good work. It does not cut crime, again, apparently. Nor does age-based accounting or gender-based accounting.

I guess Federal regulations for reporting require accounting by ascriptive characteristics. I guess there is a length-of-neck category and a Weak Chin Scale, too. They do not help.

What identifying people by race, age and gender does accomplish is to feed prejudices, aggravate relationships between worthy members of society, erode cohesion within American society, and create a peculiarly American brand of Us vs. Them that will be the end of democracy.

Designating people according some perceived similarity or according to their race, creed or national origin is discriminatory. Discrimination was a un-American and indecent when it was done to your ancestors. Racial discrimination harking back to Jim Crow and chattel slavery was un-American and indecent.

That said: what needs to happen in America is for us to start collecting data on people who are losing their hair and teeth.

More on the "gun nutter" school systems across the country listening to the NRA and the old Bill Clinton idea of armed guards in schools.

School districts across country embrace call to hire armed guards.
"School districts in Pennsylvania, Alabama, New Jersey, and Rhode Island have hired armed officers in the weeks since the mass shooting in Newtown, Conn., the Free Beacon has found.

Additionally, schools in Florida, Tennessee, Arizona, and New York are in the process of hiring armed officers or recommending they be placed in schools.

Vice President Joe Biden will present his recommendations on school safety to President Barack Obama on Tuesday. Reports indicate that the Obama administration will seek to tighten gun control laws."

Joe, last week you asked me a question and also asked that I reply without any insults regarding my statement that over 95% of scientists agree that global climate change is for real. I provided three links for your review without a single insult. PS - I did not see a reply from you.

Now it is my turn to ask you questions and ask the same favor in reply.

Once you arm the schools, how will you protect the soccer fields when hundreds of kids and their parents on Saturday that are playing and watching the games at a recreation field? How will you protect a high school football game with hundreds of spectators? And thirdly, how will you protect the shoppers walking the Avenue on a summer Saturday night? All from a gunman with a Glock that has a 30 round magazine attached hidden under his coat?

Chicago: 22 Murders in 11 Days.

THIS is where the majority of gun violence is and apparently no one wants to include this in the present discussion on gun violence.

Sample size is small, isn't it. Chicago had 500 homicides last year for a city of 2.75 million - or 4.5 times the size of Baltimore.

Considering Baltimore regularly tops 200 murders a year, if Chicago actually maintained the 2 murders a day for an entire year (which would assume a 50% increase in murders) they'd STILL be on par or slightly behind Baltimore.

Math is your friend. Fearmongering, not so much.

Actually, males are more frequently targeted than any other group. Oh, and males age 20-34.

I cannot understand why you are so happy about a 70 year old man's home getting broken into and possibly putting his life in danger. And that 'gun nut' seems to be from the reports, a responsible firearm owner no? He had them in a safe. And it does not look like he had little kids around. If a 70 year old man had a safe full of firearms, that must be a collection of some value. No word if any were "illegal" is there?
Frank, wait until his neighbor who the newspaper exposed is NOT a firearm owner and there is a home invasion using that newspapers information. Then what will you say?

Frank states "But the inescapable reality is that people with guns kill many, many more people than people with baseball bats."

FBI UCR 2011: Murdered by rifle, 323 Murdered by shotgun, 356
Murdered by handgun, 6220.
Murdered by "Blunt objects (clubs, hammers, etc.)" and "Personal weapons (hands,
fists, feet, etc.)" 1222.

Is the national firearm violence debate about all firearms, some firearms (semi automatic ugly mean looking firearms), background checks that includes medical background? Or is it about the 2nd amendment? Is it about handguns? Is it about urban violence which comprises most of the criminal use of firearms?

In 2011 there were 8583 homicides by firearm. Is this discussion about 72% of those homicides or is this discussion limited to the 3.76% of all firearm homicides by rifle?

WE seem to be dismissing 38% of the perpetrators and 72% of the firearm involved!

Some fool said above math is your friend or something silly. Well this is the math.

Rifles were used in 3.76% of all homicide by firearms in 2011. And it seem this is where the Biden/CAP group is heading. The cold pot is on high heat and many will succumb to the cook.

I qualified my numbers with where is this national debate going! To the vast majority of the firearm violence or to the small minority of the firearm violence?

Rahmbo Emanuel was in town today to give us all advice on what to do to solve the firearm violence. Amazing since his city had 22 murdered by firearms in 14 days. I can't wait to take his advice.

Frank says "Every gun starts out its life as a legal gun."

A highly regulated serial numbered, in this state if a regulated firearm, "ballistic fingerprinted", Government tracked through its sales transactions wholesale through retail.

Its first legal end use owner has been checked in most cases for disqualifying items in their background.

How much more Frank will prevent someone who has the desire and will to bypass those checks like Lanza did when he couldn't wait for a 7 day period before he went on his evil killing spree?

Blackness is not the independent variable here. Poverty is. Education that does not pertain to employment is an independent variable. Participation in an underground drug economy is an independent variable.

I received the Governor's plans in an e-mail today. This is parsed from it because I couldn't get it to fit.

1.) Gun safety: We should ban military-style assault weapons, limit large ammunition capacity, and require licenses for handgun purchases. We respect the rights of hunters and sportsmen and that's why our licensing requirements will NOT apply to shotguns or rifles.
2.) School safety: We will invest in security upgrades for schools, including cameras at entrances, automatically locking doors, shatterproof glass and buzzer entrance systems. We will also establish a "Maryland Center for School Safety," which will amplify our efforts by gathering meaningful data and serving as a central hub for collaboration between our federal, state and local law enforcement partners.
3.) Mental heath: We will improve data sharing practices between federal and state officials. In addition, we will invest more to improve mental health services so we can intervene early and reduce the potential for violent behavior. We'll expand crisis intervention teams, expand response services and establish a center for excellence on early intervention for serious mental illness.

This is a complex problem and we need a comprehensive approach. I look forward to hearing from you in the days ahead as we work to build a stronger, safer Maryland.
Thank you,

Martin O'Malley

“#Yes u can! @barackobama you can do something to curb the violence in the inner cities across America, especially your hood in Chicago.”

His Twitter tirade began on Sunday when he asked President Obama to call in his celebrity friends for reinforcements.

“Dear @BarackObama, call Jay-Z to fly his private plane Down to Chicago & you fly yours the same way you called in the stars to win Ohio#help”

“@barackobama I forgot you weren’t an impoverished inner city kid! You grew up in Kansas & Hawaii! You only play the ghetto card come election time!”"

That may be true for people who are reckless, careless and irresponsible with their firearms. However, in a home with well trained, educated gun owners, proper safety precautions (specialty access safe, trigger lock etc) enacted, having a gun in the home is perfectly safe even around children. The keys are also inside the safe as well, so there's no chance of their being taken. Regarding the comment made by Frank, that one particular case is the very example of what not to do when having firearms in the home. I read an article about the story that even mentioned a gun being in a diaper bag with diapers. That's just plain child endangerment and a poor example of how most legal gun owners keep their weapon out of the hands of the vulnerable or violent.

If you insist that irrelevant physical characteristics--skin color--have anything to do with gun violence, you need treatment. You are right. I am probably not qualified, being just your good friend.

If you are making an argument that the genocide, impoverishment, and mass incarceration of a group of Americans that can be identified by skin color has occurred--and that murder rates within that community are byproducts of that institutional racism-- I will agree with you that the 38% is significant and that we should not talk about gun violence without reference to race.

Your motives ARE RELEVANT. And your latest panic-response proves it.

As I have stated over and over again, as the local school boards, parents and government deem qualified to guard their children's schools.

Imagine Frank that this woman agrees with the NRA and with me and does not agree with you.

But now Newtown, CT, vanilla side, low and behold… We have a major conversation. That’s wonderful. Each life is precious, but it just upsets me when we’re so differential.

Tavis asked Dr. West why he believes President Obama remained silent on gun slayings during his first term:

It’s a crucial question. And I think it’s not just Barack Obama, it’s our politicians across the board, across color, across class. They’re either cowards or hypocrites when it comes to this issue of our precious children. By cowards I mean they care but they don’t have the courage to move forward and act. Or they’re hypocrites which is to say they say they care but deep down they don’t care especially when it relates to South Side of Chicago, Harlem, children across the board…"

Instead of linking corny, made-for- TV movies, Lorna Doom, you could follow a less hysterical, more intellectual line of inquiry. http://docsouth.unc.edu/sohp/A-0352/excerpts/excerpt_3100.html#fulltext

Even this cursory look at the situation in post-WWII Tennessee will persuade a reasonable person that 1. illegal gambling at the center of the corruption is controlled in the open by state governments 2. poll taxes are illegal 3. modern media spreads allegations of corruption all over the world and 4. Poll: Majority of Young People Considering Gun Ownership.

"Despite experiencing a post-Columbine world, 60 percent of high school and college students are considering owning a gun in the future, according to a national poll.

One-third of young people reported growing up with a gun in the household and 36 percent reported being “very worried” about gun violence. However, nearly 40 percent of participants planned to own a gun when they have their own household, and an additional 20 percent were contemplating it.

"I think the major contribution of the poll results is to demonstrate that now is certainly the time to have a serious conversation about gun control since the next generation is no less likely to plan to own guns," said AU professor Jennifer L. Lawless.

Lawless, director of AU's Women and Politics Institute, and Loyola Marymount University professor Richard L. Fox conducted the poll of 4,000 high school and college students."

Yikes..why do I willingly permit myself to be drawn into this idiotic conversation...bored, I guess. Can we get back to some semblance of talk about gun control, tyranny, et al???

Looney Lorna, when you show some respect to those of us who have different views you will get that same respect back. Until that happens, which should be some time around the next solar eclipse in Maryland, you will receive only the disrespect you have earned. Until that time, please keep cashing the Maryland retirement checks that the rest of us have paid for and complain that you are not receiving enough and that others receive too much. Keep sucking at the government trough and how your "earned" it. We look forward to your enjoying life at our expense.

If you lunatic libprogs cannot wrap your tiny bits of grey matter around the use of "locally qualified and approved armed security" then you are not here to think, to dialog or to be a human. You are here to be naggers.

If FIFA and Frank were suspended from Patch for 30 days the site would flourish...
I know of several small business owners that will not advertise on Patch because of posters like these two...can't really blame them.. consistent inconsistencies with the Patch editing process causes them to lose money...kinda dumb.

See Looney Lorna, as long as you disrespect me, I will continue the same. That pension check you get, who is the payor? I'll tell you, the citizens of the State of Maryland. How does it feel taking money from us that you did not earn and then complain about the hand that feeds you? Pretty good, huh? You like our money, it spends well?

What is your definition of "earn" my dear, darling FIFI PIFI. Where do your get all of your misinformation? It is mindboggling...and you produce it just as if it were gospel. Yikes!!! Just a quick question.. if a person pays into a pension system...who is the payor upon retirement? Just want to see if your mind is as clear as you seem to think it is, honeychild. And when our political folks step down or are voted out, who is the payor for their pension? It must hurt you a lot not to have received at least a small pension after laboring for a small salary as well. Yikes!!! And finally, I suppose you don't see the clear mode of disrespect you spew forth with all your cutesy "looney tune" name calling. Oh well, probably too much darkness under that rock for much, much too long a stretch.

Looney Lorna, let me explain how your pension works. You were employed by your employer, the state of MD who receives revenues from the people of the State. Good so far? They pay you on our behalf with our money. You contribute a portion of your pay (our money) to a pension plan but the State must contribute more as well. The State gets money from us.

Thus we paid all of your pension and continue to do so? Hear that sucking sound?

Believe me, I understand calling you Looney Lorna is in exchange for your never ending insults.

The fly's love the crap that is being put out by the government...they live for it...
Additionally...Patch editors seem very inconsistent in practice....perhaps a little lazy..

Buck, perhaps you should have more faith in the Patch Editors (or at least some) in that Huffington calls the shots (pardon the violent word) the results of which are exactly as they wish them to be. I could almost count on some of these darlings we enjoy mesmerizing actually being on the "take" with no pension what ever. They are so loyal .. in some ways we have to have a little conscious understanding of the usefulness of their ineptitude for those they so faithfully serve.

Read the attached Wall Street Journal article regarding the effects of gun control in the District of Columbia, and then see what the Aussies experienced. It seems like “good intentions” always gets trumped by those pesky “unintended consequences.”

To my gun hating Americans here is a question on large capacity magazines. What are the legal gun owners that have purchased guns with the large magazines to do with the stock pile of magazines? Since we purchased these legally will the government have a buy back program to rid these? I can say I have 20 plus 17 round magazines in my gun safe right now and more to come when my new guns arrive.

In New York, with their freshly-signed laws, NY residents have one year to sell them out of state. As more states pass these laws, the big magazines will migrate to the states that are behind the times. If (when) the national law passes I guess it will be like Musical Chairs - don't get caught with them when the music stops.

I'd sell them off now, while you can still get something for them. Or maybe melt them down and make yourself a souvenir of "the good old days."

Frank that is not surprising. Most leftists don't believe in American exceptionalism and actually have never been too fond of the US of A because they view it as a place full of a bunch of evil capitalists, religous nuts and don't like the military much either. Of course now that your guy Obama is in office, I guess some of you see the country a little more positively now as he is turning us into a progressive paradise. To quote Michelle: "for the first time in my adult life I'm proud of my country". Those words ring true Frankie?

Lorna D. Rudnikas

You are so very anti-anti Frankie, how could you feel any other way. The problem, as I see it, is that you and all you stand for with all your fellow cohorts must never be given the edge....unless of course it is at the very edge of a very high cliff. Sorry, as much as you see me in total opposite poles to you way of thinking..I too see you that way as well. But you are a small cog and I pray you and those of your persuasion never grow to make a wheel that destroys us and all that our great country stands for. If that ever happens, you and yours will be the very first to be thrown off the cliff..you will no longer be of use to anyone as far as "they" are concerned. Yes, I know that gets on your last little nerves. Too bad!
