Summer Events: Outdoor Concerts in Catonsville

There are some great outdoor shows in addition to Frederick Road Fridays and Lurman Woodland Theatre.

Music City is becoming the place to see outdoor shows in the summer months. Do you love catching a concert outside? Here's our list for Catonsville.

Frederick Road Fridays: every Friday until August 31 on Egges Lane from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Bring a lawn chair, blanket and enjoy front-row seating for some great bands that will make you want to get up and dance. This event has become one of the premiere summer events in Catonsville, as many visitors wander in and out of downtown shops, get carry-out food from nearby restaurants, or enjoy a pint in the beer garden set up at Jennings Cafe. All concerts are free.

Concerts at Lurman Woodland Theatre: Every Saturday and Sunday, the wooded outdoor venue by Catonsville High School feels like an intimate version of Merriweather Post Pavillion. All shows start at 6 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. All concerts are free. A core group of dedicated volunteers make these concerts happen every summer.

Summer Jazz Concerts at Banneker Park: Once a month on Saturdays, the grounds at Benjamin Banneker Historical Park become the place to hear some great, local jazz. The outdoor jazz shows start at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 and children 15 and under are $15.

Concert at the Samaritan Women: While this concert only happens once (this Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m), spending an afternoon on the grounds of the Samaritan Women just over the city line in Baltimore listening to Eileen Edmonds is for a great cause. The concert is free, but a suggested donation of $20 goes toward's the nonprofit's organizatin's mission of helping women in crisis. While you're there, take a tour of their urban farm.

Saturday Sessions at Bill's Music: The folks at Bill's Music thought their parking lot would be a great place to showcase up and coming bands. The members of the band who played last week, the Usual Suspects, are all under the age of 16 and don't have as many places to play. This week there will be a double act, with music at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Organizers are still booking bands for future shows.
