Short Line Trail Gets a New Surface

Catonsville Rails To Trails worked to secure funding.

Another section of old rail line in Catonsville has received a facelift, with the Short Line receiving a new surface recently.

The trail is roughly eight feet wide and a half-mile long. It starts at Maiden Choice Lane near Garden Ridge Road and ends at the rear wall of Charlestown. For the past decade, Catonsville Rails To Trails has worked to restore the trail and has removed more than 125 tons of scrap metal. Volunteer groups and Boy Scouts have also been helping to clear the trail for the past four years.

The new surface is a mix of crushed stone and crushed limestone powder. The funds for the new surface was raised by the nonprofit organization.
