Several education leaders were added to a newly created advisory commission.
President Barack Obama and Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, president of University of Maryland in Baltimore County, shared a moment in the Oval Office last week.
Obama named Hrabowski as chairman of the newly created President's Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African Americans, according to the university's website.
Hrabowski and the comission will advise Obama and Education Secretary Arne Duncan, according to the release.
The UMBC president and a panel of other education administrators were on hand as Obama signed the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans Executive Order on Thursday, July 26.
Hrabowski can be seen fourth in from the left and right from a sharply dressed Reverend Al Sharpton, who is wearing a purple striped tie.
