Jury Finds Randallstown Man Not Guilty in 2011 Shooting
Sterling Lewis was charged with first-degree murder in the botched drug robbery that left a 19-year-old man dead.
A Baltimore County jury found a Randallstown man not guilty of first-degree murder Friday.
Sterling Lewis, 22, of the 3900 block of Nemo Road was also charged with first-degree assault, use of a handgun in commission of a violent crime and attempted robbery with a dangerous or deadly weapon.
Nine of Lewis' family members present in the courtroom cried out loud as the verdict was read.
The jury in Baltimore County Circuit Court took a day and a half to reach the verdict.
According to testimony, Lewis and another man—identified as Reginald Frederick, who was convicted in July—attempted to rob Lewis' friend, Everald Thomas.
Thomas testified that late on March 27, 2011, he pulled over his car in the 4000 block of Winlee Road in Randallstown for what he believed was a marijuana sale. Thomas was accompianied by friend Willie Jackson, 19, of Milford Mill. Two masked men—one of whom Thomas immediately recognized as Lewis—got in his car to discuss the deal.
Thomas got out of the car and was allegedly held up by Lewis. Jackson got out of the car, and was followed by Frederick. The two got into a fight, Thomas testified, and then Thomas joined the fight to defend Jackson. Lewis allegedly fired several shots from his handgun, hitting Jackson.
A handgun found in a bookbag in the Baltimore City residence where Lewis was arrested matched spent cartridges left at the scene.
However, in the trial this week, defense attorney Warren Brown attempted to cast doubt largely upon Thomas, the state's key witness. Thomas had misled police in his early statements following the shooting and withheld his knowledge that led to Lewis and Frederick.
Prosecutors countered that evidence backed the story that Thomas later told investigators, and to the jury on the stand. However, the evidence was apparently not sufficient to convict Lewis. Brown said he was "not surprised" by the jury's decision.
"It was just this one guy who admittedly lied often to the detectives," Brown said after the verdict. "I certainly think that there was reasonable doubt there."
Prosecutor Joe Dominick was not available for comment immediately after the verdict.

Who cares? This was a case of a drug user getting iced in a dug deal gone bad. One less piece of trash supporting the drug culture. Now, I'm sure that one of the late Mr. Jackson's friends will "settle this score" in their own way and we will then be rid of another piece of trash. It's good to hear that the "ciminal justice system" i.e. criminals giving out the justice that other criminals deserve, is still in action doing the work that the "official" justice system is either unwilling or incapable of doing.
Keep up the good work, bros.

Harry, I too love how nature seems to take care of itself. Some humans seem to think they can outsmart nature and common sense with liberal leniencies and that THEY ‘really’ know what’s best for society. I would be curious to see how well the drug dealer would kill off each other if we stopped arresting them.

@Chillin,
I think that you're on to something, but I would suggest taking it a step further. I would like to see the authorities take up the position that if anyone is CONVICTED of a felony then if and when they die in what is now considered a "homicide" would be reclassified into "one less criminal on the street" and the police would not waste their time and energy (to say nothing of the money involved) doing an investigation of the so-called crime. Just call in the Fire Department to do a "wash down" of the "crime scene" and let that be the end of it. The friends, families, brother gang members, and the like would take care of the rest for us and AT NO COST to the taxpayer and law-abiding citizen regardless of race, creed, color natural origin, or even their immigration status. I call this plan the Good Riddance to Bad Rubbish project.

I used to live in that area, Nemo and Winlee, about 18 years ago when the **igs started moving in, I got out, and glad I did. That area is turning into the worst part of Baltimore City.

More reason why Marylanders should have the right to carry.

LOL The Dude that was shot was a drug dealer. You're advocating the right for drug dealers to carry firearms?
What an Idiot!

Darrell, in all likelihood this guy WAS already armed. While I am all in favor of Maryland becoming a SHALL ISSUE state wherein all law-abiding citizens should be able to obtain a concealed carry permit, this instantce was one in which the deceased was not, by definition, a law-abiding citizen and was, instead, engaged in a criminal act. These imbeciles do not need, would not qualify for, nor do they care about any law regarding the carrying of concealed weapons. They do that all the time anyway.

There are criminals both white and black that are committing acts of violence in Baltimore city and county. This is about the type of people that engage in such activities not about race. It is unfortunate that more people don't understand that and rather than work to uplift and repair their community they place blame and name call.

I always wonder how a first time poster like Taneeka Richardson finds the Patch? Is it really someone professing their point of view? Or is it someone trying to jerk your chain to get you all riled up and to reinforce a stereotype?
Conspiracy theorist I guess I am.

I don't know if Taneeka is real or not, but she sounds like the typical angry black female, and as I indicated above, it was her and her ilk moving into the area that got me to leave Nemo/Winlee many years ago, and super glad I did.

First of all my brother was not a drug dealer he was with a friend and lost his life for something he had nothing to do with, and for people to leave comments like this is just sad. It's hard for me to not go off on here but I'm not gonna let my brother be disrespected, his life was taking for no reason and now his son has to grow up without a father.
