Breaking: Woman Dead, Man Injured in Catonsville Incident »
Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

Greetings, Catonsville!

A new editor takes the reins of Catonsville Patch.

It's the same Catonsville Patch, with a new face.

I'm Bruce, and I'm your editor.

Although new to this position at Catonsville Patch, I'm not new to Patch. For the last two years, I've been editor of Arbutus Patch next door. Some readers may recognize my byline appearing here now and then.

A little about me: A native of Amherst, N.Y., I moved to Baltimore years ago to attend University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where I graduated in 1985.

If you're interested in the long version, I wrote an occasionally amusing autobiographical serial at Arbutus Patch. The serial describes how I went from being an EMT/paramedic at a firehouse outside of Memphis, Tenn., and, despite my best intentions, became sidetracked into journalism.

I've been committing journalism ever since, writing for Baltimore magazine, USA Today and numerous magazines and newspapers throughout the country. I've also done eight books, none of which you've ever read (they're all textbooks or medical reference books).

I live in Catonsville, my kids go to the Catonsville public schools, my wife is a nurse at St. Agnes Hospital, and we shop and dine out in the Catonsville-Arbutus area. In other words, I'm a lot like the typical Catonsville Patch reader.

I'm interested in the same things that most Catonsville Patch readers are: Schools, development, crime, traffic, goings-on in the community. Your neighborhood is my neighborhood, too.

My goal is for readers to notice little difference in Catonsville Patch. All of the good things Penny Riordan has done, those will remain. You'll still see your favorite features and writers here. It will still be the same Catonsville Patch that people know and love.

I'll also do some things that reflect my own sensibilities. I like interesting people stories, and I have something of a reputation for punny and clever headlines. I aim for lively and engaging writing that makes Patch worthwhile to read. I like taking pictures.

If I do well, I hope you let me know. If I'm missing something, or if there is something you'd like to see, I hope you'll let me know that, too. This is your Patch...our Patch.

Feel free to email, call or text me anytime. My email address is bruce.goldfarb@patch.com, and the phone number is 410-404-9380.
