Four Charged in Frederick Road Burglary

The group was found inside of a vacant Frederick Road home on Sept. 21.

Four people were arrested and charged with burglary after being caught inside a vacant home in the 6400 block of Frederick Rd. on Sept. 21, according to a police report.

Arrested were Stephanie Ann Barnabae, 48, and Justin Zachary Barnabae, 23, both of the 100 block of Hillside Rd.; Charles Henry Hoerl, 43, of the unit block of Belle Grove Rd.; and Steven Craig Clark, 57, of the unit block of Carroll Rd., according to the report.

The suspects were found inside the home at around 4 p.m., and entered the home by breaking a rear window, according to police. They did not have permission to be in the residence, according to the report.

All four were charged with fourth-degree burglary, the police report said.

Under Maryland law:

First degree burglary is breaking into a dwelling with the intent of committing theft or a violent crime.

Second degree burglary is similar to first-degree, but breaking into a something other than a dwelling (garage, shed, boat, railroad car, etc.).

Third degree burglary is breaking into a dwelling with the intent of committing another crime, but not theft or violent crime.

Fourth degree burglary is breaking into a dwelling or storehouse without the intent of committing another crime.

So if you break into a residence or garage to get out of the rain, hang out, or sleep because you have nowhere else to go, that's fourth-degree burglary. I don't know what these suspects were doing in the vacant house, but this is how the law is defined.

This is crazy. Like so many others ,I grew up in Catonsville and chose to stay and raise my kids here . I hate that these types of crimes are happening more and more. It use to be we could blame it on outsiders, people passing through or coming up from the city, now it is literally people in our own backyard. We have to beat them at their own game, keep your eyes open, lock your car!! hide valuables . Turn on porch lights on at night , statistics show well lit homes and yards don't fall victim to this type of crime. Talk to your neighbors, help keep an eye on the neighborhood and each other.

FYI...I live on Melvin Ave. near St. Mark's Church. Last month we had a handful of car, garage and shed break-ins. Definitley keep your doors locked!

I moved to Catonsville in 2005. I live alone. I really appreciate all the information
Given here by the Catonsville Patch. The warning about the sheds being broken in
and car break ins and the helpful warnings and reminders about leaving your
porch lights on are helpful. Thanks everyone for the reminders of being safe.
