So sorry to see that you are moving on, but send all best wishes as you enter a new career path. Thanks for introducing me to "blogging"...it has been and continues to be a great learning experience.

Ah Man! I’m going to miss Bruce. The Arbutus Patch came upon the scene with Bruce as the first editor. While I was heading Halethorpe Improvement Association Bruce would always keep in touch with me to see what was happening in the neighborhood so that he could get the word out to a bigger audience. He was always on top of things and had his ear to the ground. He always reported very accurately and truthfully, with just enough extra pizzazz and catchy headlines to draw in the reader. One thing that impressed me about Bruce early on was when he was on site reporting on a community path reclamation project that Arbutus Improvement Association (AIA) was taking on. They were clearing a once common footpath that lead from Sulphur Spring Rd. to the Arbutus Elementary School girl’s softball fields that had been falsely claimed by an adjacent property owner and Bruce had been following the circumstances (drama included) leading up to the day. Of course, he was there to snap photos and report on the event, but he lingered much longer than needed. He had stayed the entire day and joined in the hard work of cutting down and stacking the brush and weeds. This alone convinced me that he was not just a local reporter, but an actual committed community member. His information was mostly gathered by memory while he worked, but the facts of the situation were reported precisely.

Bringing an edge to local news Bruce was always eager to do a little investigative digging and not afraid to ask the tough questions to government officials or anyone for that matter. I particularly remember when he reported on his difficulties and hurdles in seeking access to reports of local crime events from our police precinct and he pressed on until he was given better access to these documents, because he knew that readers really wanted to know the who, what, and where about crime in their backyards. He finally got the weekly access he wanted and always used the information from these reports responsibly. I’m going to miss Bruce at the Arbutus Patch. I like the Patch’s format and I hope the Arbutus Patch carries on with another good reporter.
