The Derecho storm and the recent heat wave have made it especially difficult for some seniors at the St. Martin's Home.

WJZ TV reports that after the storm, some of the building's rooms lost power through central air. To keep the rooms cool, the staff went out bought window air conditioning units.

The nonprofit nursing home on Maiden Choice Lane houses seniors who are poor or disabled. The nuns are in the process of raising funds for a capital campaign to upgrade many of the rooms on the property.

The staff hopes to raise $25 million for renovations and need $12 million more. For more information about the capital campaign, go to the home's website.
