Catonsville Student Places Second in Spelling Bee

The Baltimore Spelling Bee was held Saturday at Towson University.

An Al-Rahmah School student lasted 27 rounds and claimed second place for the second time in the Baltimore Spelling Bee on Saturday.

In the last of a 16-round face-off between the final two competitors, sixth-grader and Catonsville resident Danyah Imam misspelled "facetious" before Monkton resident Abby Pepin spelled "peccadillo" to claim the prize, the Catonsville Times reports. The spelling bee was held at Towson University.

"I was nervous because I was wishing to get my words right and get at least second or first," Danyah told the paper. "At least I got that part."

Her brother Shaheer Imam took first place ahead of her last year, but was unable to compete this year, as he had transferred to a school that does not offer the spelling bee, the Times reported.
