Catonsville Library Kicks of Summer Reading
The countywide program kicked goes until August 11.
The summer reading program at Baltimore County Public Library continues to grow, with 10,000 more participants across the county in 2011 compared to the year before.
In 2011, 45,971 children and adults participated, compared to 35,479 in 2010. A total of 1,802 children and adults participated last year at the Catonsville Library, according to Bob Hughes, a spokesman for the library.
The theme of this year's program is "Dream Big: Read!" for preschool and elementary-age children and "Own the Night" for middle school and older.
Participants can pick up materials at the library. As they read books and complete the gameboard, they can pick out prizes.
Some of the top prizes for teens include an iPod Touch, iPod Shuffle, Kindle Fire, gift cards and mystery prizes.

At the Catonsville branch, two summer reading kick-off events will be held June 23 -- a special baby booster story time at 10:30 a.m. and a magic show at 2 p.m.
