Bike Shop Coming to Catonsville
The Hub and Cville Bikes will open in October on Frederick Road.
Catonsville resident Scott Westcoat has been looking for property in Catonsville to open a bike shop for more than a year.
But every opportunity fell through, until he was able to secure two storefronts side-by-side on Frederick Road on the Strawberry Fields property.
Westcoat, along with two other businesser partners, will open two bike shops at 827 Frederick Road and 821 Frederick Road. The shops were formerly occupied by the Catonsville Groomery, which moved to Edmondson Avenue and A.W.O.L. Skate Shop, which moved across the street.
One shop will be Cville Bikes, which will cater to families, and another shop will be the Hub, which will cater to more serious cyclists.
Westcoat's partners are his brother Warren and veteran bike shop manager Chris Adair.
An avid cyclist himself, Westcoast said he felt the timing was right for a bike shop to cater to the growing bicylce community. He said the momentum from Catonsville Trails to Trails growing, along with added bike lanes to area roads, means there will be more cyclists in the area.
"There are a lot of positives," he said. "The timing was right."
Craig Witzke, owner of Strawberry Fields, said he has wanted to bring a bike shop to Catonsville for a long time.
While the two bike shops will cater to different types of riders, Westcoat said he expects both shops to be a gathering place for the cycling community, regardless of age or experience.
"It's not two shops," he said. "It's one whole bicycle village."
